  1. Exercise moderately with a mixture of aerobic exercise ( running ) and weight bearing exercise. Or, as my friend puts it so aptly, " get a job on a farm ".
  2. Reduce stress and sleep well. The body does a huge amount of detoxifying during deep or R.E.M sleep. This means you should avoid stimulants such as sodas, coffee, chocolate, late night T.V., too much noise.
  3. Stay away from NutriSweet. The research is not good on this product.
  4. If you do not have cancer or diabetes and are not pregnant try to cut your food intake to two healthy meals per day. Exercise is wonderful but it is very difficult for the over twenty five individual to exercise their way to weight control. The trick is to eat better but eat less often.

I hope these suggestions don't frighten you away and don't try to make all these changes overnight. It takes time. These are just the basics and there is a great deal more we shall discuss in later articles.

But I was determined to stay clean. In the past, such emotional entanglements only led to more drug use. So I had to find a new way of doing things. I wasn't going to shoot dope and I wasn't going to get drunk. And I sure didn't get clean to feel miserable.
