There are a number of very worthy subjects over which to editorialize tonight as we finish our magazine for this month:
There is the lamentable outcome of the federal trial of Ed Rosenthal. For those who don't know, Rosenthal is a marijuana maven(expert) who, among other grass activities, grows marijuana for a number of medical marijuana clubs in the San Francisco Bay area. The trial judge didn't allow the jurors to hear testimony about the use of the grass Rosenthal was growing, the serious ill citizens who depend on marijuana as part of their medical strategy. On a good note, the jurors, after the trial and learning the full details, held a press conference and, along with San Francisco city officials, called for a retrial and for the Federal government to back off from its aggressive campaign to block California state law which permits the growing and distribution of medical marijuana.
There are more important items. But we will use the rest of this limited space to decry the horror of an impending war that could unleash any moment between the United States and a hapless Iraq. The drums of war have been beating louder and louder throughout the last months. We implore all people to speak out, to act where possible to lend their voices and energy to stop the march towards conflict. And, oh yes, we also pray!
