Methadone Effects
This is to answer Veronica's equiries about Methadone's negative effects:
Yes you can die from overdose. Late last year there were 4 deaths related to methadone overdose in London. A woman was attracting men to her house and gave them high doses of methadone to drink. Four people were killed. Plus as a personal experience I can tell you that once you've been on methadone maintenance for over six months it is extremely hard to come out of it. It feels like it in your bones, muscles, everywhere. I could not sleep at all for the first 4 weeks and it took me 4 months to get back to normal sleeping patterns. I will never take it again and i strongly discourage anyone using it unless it is for a short detox(no longer than 2 or 3 weeks)

Rational Recovery
Thanks for including the article about rational recovery. I respect the fact that 12 steps work for a lot of people but they will never work for me, when i'm in meetings i feel like i'm on the fringe of a cult. When i stop using heroin, i don't want to sit around for 15 or 20 years talking about being an addict. I want to get ALL THE WAY past a life that revolves around dope, and i can't do that if i devote all my time to meetings.
I really like rational recovery. I found a doctor who was willing to prescribe me enough methadone to detox at home, and rational recovery (or just the decision to stop) has kept me clean for the last two weeks. These are the only two weeks i've been clean out of the last two years.
Here's the biggest problem I deal with today--I don't know what to f*cking do with myself when I get out of bed in the morning! Any suggestions?

A Great site to talk with people about anything, including Heroin but even better about heroin treatment and recovery.
