There's something about the New Year that makes us all go over what happened last year and think about our plans and wishes for the year upcoming.
Alright, here's the view from here:
Last year was relatively good for those of us who toil in the garden of Recovery or Harm Reduction or improvement in the legal situation for those involved with Drug use. Marijuana is almost legal in some of the States. At least it is less illegal. A number of States have passed and/or are considering lowering the penalties for 1st and 2nd drug charge convictions. This is good. This is very good. The war on Drugs
continues to limp along though and is far from dead. The DEA still hounds the marijuana clubs.
The Terrorist attacks on the United States have hurt all of us without regard to whether we use drugs, used to use drugs, never use drugs, care about drugs or don't. We are all in this together.
We hope that 2002 sees a continuation of the call for lower drug penalties. We hope there is peace on earth for all of us. We hope there is serious efforts to restructure the system that jails the users who call 911 in order to attempt to save one of their fellows. We hope the government permits student loans again
to people who have drug convictions in their past. We hope all people are treated with dignity and respect by our government and by our fellow citizens.
HAPPY NEW
YEAR
