arrived at Dum Dum, Calcutta's airport with my
plans made. The airport was so named as the place dum-dums shells

Shiva, after a year
of taming the celestial river in is dreads dropped the Holy Ganges
to earth. Making the city the holiest in the world.
I know i bathed
every morning in her waters for five years and drank of her waters
with no ill effects.

anyway, sorry about the digression i was writing a book on the
universality of the didactic tale, the fable and the frame story.
But hanging around
the airport waiting, I started catching the taste of coke in my
mouth, and I knew, at least for then, that Banares would have
to wait. After all a few days in Bbay couldn't hurt. Yah. right.
New tickets were easily obtained and in late after noon , I
was there-paradise and hell, for any junkie, but for most of us
it was mostly the latter.
