Acupuncture and Herbal Therapies as Treatment

Dear HT,
My husband is an opiate addict and alcoholic. The two have always been his "drugs of choice," but lately since he's been on methadone first and now LAAM, he has discovered benzos. He is in the process of "coming off" of these. He is 43 years old and has been drinking and using since his early teens. He's been through rehab's and the longest period of constant sobriety is 2 1/2 years. He never "twist off" for very long at a time. He doesn't like it--he hates himself for his weakness.

I have been researching acupuncture and herbal therapies--two things he has yet to try. He's been a member of AA since around 1983 and he practices the principles. But it doesn't continue to work.

I've read some interesting treatments lately on herbal therapies and exercise--which include saunas. The philosophy includes cleansing all metabolites from the fatty tissue so that they can not surface and cause cravings after a week, month, year, or years.
As I understand it, these can be released from fatty tissue for years after the drug is no longer being used. This is what causes someone who has been off of drugs for seven years to feel the strong urge to return to the insanity of drug use.

I am searching for concrete details for these two different types of treatments. Any advice you can offer will be appreciated.
~Kim~
