The recovering addict is a
wanderer-fugitive-warrior who often transform into a
traveler-messenger-priest when taking this walk on the wildest side of all,
the light and darkness that is essence of the Tao, which means translated
from the Chinese Sanskrit, “The Way,” learning along the way that sometimes
the way that is not the way is also the way while remaining, oftentimes, a
philosopher-poet of both words and actions whose philosophy becomes wiser
and whose poetry becomes more beautiful the more steps taken away from the
disease into the sanctuary of recovery.
THAT THE WAY THAT IS NOT THE WAY IS
SOMETIMES THE WAY is one of the great lessons an addicts can teach others
who have lived a pure life, for it substantiates a belief in grace that is
rewarded in forgiveness by those who are truly pure of spirit. What an
advantage an addict, an egomaniac with an inferiority complex, has who can
take the steps of this walk, what an opportunity not to just have mere
equilibrium, but a balance of dynamic intensity, wide range, large volume,
and heavy density. The proportions are epic! How much simpler it is for an
addict to attain happiness who takes the steps of this walk! Yet is seldom
easy.
A good part of all a recovering addict need do to refrain from being an
egomaniac is remember from where he or she came from when they were mired in
their disease. It is easiest to remember by reaching out to help another
addict who is newer to this walk. Although the recovering addict is not
humiliated, evidenced by the ability to make light of his or her past with
humor, the recovering addict is humbled.
When a recovering addict is truly
humbled, it is categorically impossible for the addict to be an egomaniac. If the addict remembers how he or she got from point A to point B, one
cannot help, but be humbled by the fact that the trek was made with more...»»
