Effects of heroin on male sperm
I have just found out that I am pregnant. My fiancee' is a heroin user. I am concerned about any possible effects the drug use would have on his impregnating me. Is my baby at any risk? I am not/never have been a user, I am just inquiring about the possibility of genetic disorders my child may have due to his drug use.
Is there any reason for me to be concerned about the health and development of my unborn child? Have there been any studies about addicted men fathering children?

You ask a very important question. The concern that your fiancee uses drugs intravenously will affect your child only if your fiancee is infected with HIV, Hepatitis or Syphilis. His actual drug use would not affect the health or development of the child in utero. Howerver, after bith, if he continues to use drugs in an addictive manner he will not be as emotionally available as he could be in supporting you or your new infant.

New boyfriend - ex addict
About a month ago, I started a relationship with a great guy. He was honest from the onset- he had been a heroin addict injecting for 10 years, and has been clean for 2 years (but one slip in Jan, when he put himself straight into recovery).
We have an intimate relationship, but I am holding back from having
intercourse with him, because I am scared of the risks of contracting HIV.
He has assured me that he never shared needles, as they are so cheap to
buy, and never knew what diseases anyone else has...but I can imagine that if you wanted heroin so much..needed...that you might take that risk.
He told me that he had an AIDS test a few months back and it was negative.
However, I have just read an article on line about a girl who was injecting for only 2 years, and isn't able to have her blood tested due to vein collapse.
So what I'm really asking is-
Are the risks really high to have unprotected sex with this guy?
How about any other form of sexual activity. And how realiable would the aids test be, bearing in mind he has a ten year history?»»
