The Opt-Out Initiative

We are developing a presence in San Francisco and Sacramento for the purpose of disseminating information on AVRT to the addicted population. Special materials are being developed, and our goal is to secure offices in San Francisco and Sacramento by the end of 2002.
We believe that the intent of public policy is that alcohol and drug related offenders should abstain from alcohol and other drugs. Toward that end, the greatest untapped resource is the large number of addicted people who have the innate ability to independently and permanently cease and desist from the use of alcohol and other drugs.

Although AVRT® will be of interest to all addicted people, our two target populations are
  1. the “rehab recidivist,” the frequent flyers who keep coming back for detox and social services in spite of extensive exposure to recovery groups and addiction treatment, and
  2. the clients of any public agency who because of personal considerations would elect to assume personal responsibility for independent abstinence from alcohol and other drugs rather than continue with meetings and treatment planning.
The general concept we propose is, opt-out of addict-identity, wherein permanently abstinent people would not be discriminated against by the social service system because he or she has chosen to accept full, personal responsibility for lifetime abstinence.
