Tim Buckley
was a versatile singer/songwriter. Tim Buckley is principally known as a folk artist, but he experimented with jazz, blues, rock, and dance musically, loosely disco. In the mid-seventies, Buckley even recorded an album in Swahili. Even though he received mixed reviews, he was respected by virtually every serious music critic, even when he recorded an album in which he was seriously out of his element.

Tim Buckley's career started in the mid-sixties and peaked in the late sixties. His career was brief: 8 years. In the beginning before he got a record deal, he played with Jim Fielder often. Fielder is best known for his work with Buffalo Springfield and Blood, Sweat & Tears.

In 1966, Frank Zappa's manager Herb Cohen got Buckley signed to Elektra. His next album was recorded for Cohen's label, Straight Records, and produced by Jerry Yester.
